Farther and Wider

I love it when our Appalachian culture shows up in unexpected places.  And what could be more unexpected than Carnegie Hall in New York City?

Walker Performing Arts Company is bringing their musical Appalachian history survey “From Sea to Shining Sea” to the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on 27th March.

Before they were ready to go, the 20 experienced musical actors needed a bit of personal experience with Appalachian foot percussion.  After a busy hour with me, they had what they needed to clog, flatfoot and buck dance to the Carter Family’s “May the Circle Be Unbroken”.

The choreography and staging are now in Mason’s capable hands – and feet! — for polishing.

Mason, Terry, Jerry, and all your actors, musicians and dancers, may you have the time of your lives at Carnegie Hall!
